Cars for Smiles Andorra- June 15, 2024

THE 1ST EDITION OF CARS FOR SMILES ANDORRA HAS GIVEN FIFTEEN TEENAGERS FROM VULNERABLE BACKGROUNDS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE CO-DRIVERS OF A SUPER CAR AT THE ANDORRA PAS DE LA CASA CIRCUIT.

Cars for Smiles, the non-profit solidarity movement that was born 10 years ago in Barcelona to bring joy and motivation to children and teenagers with serious illnesses, held its first edition in Andorra on Saturday June 15 at the Andorra Pas de la Casa Circuit.

The event, which has already been held for 10 years in Barcelona and more recently also in Madrid and Salamanca, brought together about fifteen teenagers as co-drivers and the corresponding drivers. Some of the participating cars were exclusive vehicles of mythical brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari or Porsche. But there were also some classic models that delighted the youngsters. Among the outstanding drivers, there was the participation of Margot Llobera, participant in the Dakar Rally, and Patrick Lemarié, who among others, has been a Formula 1 test driver and is currently the founder and director of the Feed Racing drivers’ school.

The purpose of this project is to create illusion and smiles in young people who are in a vulnerable situation, for whatever reason, as well as to provide support to their families. In addition to providing them with a unique and motivating experience, the money raised through donations made by the drivers (owners of the vehicles) goes 100% to the autumn camp project “Disconnect to connect” organized by the Andorran Red Cross for these same children and adolescents. In total, 4,185 € have been collected, although this could increase in the coming days because the donation channel is still open on the website www.carsforsmiles.org.

Some of the participating pilots highlighted the illusion they could see in the eyes of their co-drivers and the shared fun they enjoyed throughout the day.

The day began at 9.30 a.m. with the arrival of the first cars at the meeting point (Plaza del Dos Valires in Escaldes-Engordany) and continued with the presentation of the project and a breakfast in Andbank’s conference room. At around 11.45 a.m. the cars left for the Andorra Pas de la Casa Circuit. From 1 p.m. onwards, at the circuit, several rounds of filming and experiences on board the supercars took place, with the participation of the teenagers as co-drivers. The event continued with a lunch at the same circuit, and closed in the afternoon with a visit to the Motorcycle Museum in Canillo.

Cars for Smiles has generated a positive impact in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid since its inception and today it has been repeated here in Andorra. Thanks to the event, more than 100,000 euros have been raised in support of more than 15 organizations.
